Character Meme 1 of 6: Thomas

I stumbled across a good-sized meme and decided that it would be a great idea for the “characters” of Semester Aboard to fill it out!  Over the next few days I’ll be posting one for each of the 6 main characters.  I’m running a poll on Facebook to see the order to post them in.

Each meme will be filled out by the characters on the night that Semester Aboard begins.  If you haven’t read it yet, don’t panic, there won’t be any spoilers.  Although there may be some hints!

As a refresher (or summary if you haven’t read it), Semester Aboard begins at night.  Our narrator, Jen, is on a summer study abroad program that takes place on a ship.  As the story opens, the students have just gotten back on the ship after several days in Mexico, their first port.  The ship is just getting ready to leave and sail on to Panama.  From there…well, Jen stumbles across something a bit magical…

For our purposes, let’s say that the students all returned to their rooms to find a “Get to Know Each Other” thing waiting for them to fill out.

Now, on to what you are actually here for.  Our first character is:  Thomas!

    Watching the ship leave Acapulco

What is the last thing you watched on TV?
    At the moment it’s a little graphic of a ship moving along a map.  Earlier today I caught a bit of a soccer game.

With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
    Cheesy ship sailing music on the TV, the engines, TS typing, people out in the hall, and music from somewhere.

When did you last step outside? What were you doing?
    About an hour ago.  I was waiting to get back on the ship.

What is on the walls of the room you are in?
    Some mail that we got in Mexico, a painting of a boat and a sunrise, and a mirror.

What is the last film you saw?
    The A-Team.

Do you like to dance?
    No.

Would you ever consider living abroad?
    I have, I enjoyed it.

Who made the last incoming call on your phone?
    Jon.

What is the last thing you downloaded onto your computer?
    Can’t remember, the ship internet is really slow.

Last time you swam in a pool?
    I don’t know.  Not too recently.

Type of music you like most?
    Probably rock and roll.  Maybe metal.

Type of music you dislike most?
    Techno

Are you listening to music right now?
    No.

What color is your bedroom carpet?
    At home?  It’s hardwood.  This carpet is blue.

What was the last thing you bought?
    Some postcards and knick-knacks to get rid of my last pesos.

Have you ever ridden on a motorbike?
    Yes.

Would you go bungee jumping or sky diving?
    I might.

Do you have a garden?
    A vegetable one?  No.

Do you really know all the words to your national anthem?
    Yeah.  And the Japanese one.

What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?
    My plans for the day.

If you could eat lunch with one famous person, who would it be?
    Maybe Eli Manning.

    Danio.  “Coming up to deck 7?”

    A mall or a Target, then I can get a little of everything.

What time is bed time?
    Usually quite late.

How many tattoos do you have?
    None.   

What did you do for your last birthday?
    Threw a party.

    TS and some other people on the ship.

What’s the farthest-away place you’ve been?
    Japan.

When’s the last time you ate a homegrown tomato?
    Not sure.

    Yep.

    Not really.

    Of course.

    Douglas Adams, Frank Herbert, Gene Simmons uh…If I can only pick one: Joe DiMaggio.

    Yes.

    Yes.

    My suitcases.

    Sort of.

    It varies based on when I went to bed.

    Not terribly far.
